Fish cultivation take 3. The fish tank in our #aquaponics system currently consists of #tilapia, #catfish, #koi, and #goldfish. I haven’t quite decided if raising edible fish is something I want to take on considering all of the challenges and $$ associated with it. However, the more I educate myself - the crisis in our oceans, the environmental impact of consuming #unsustainably-raised imported farmed fish, and the human rights violations including slavery associated with imported farmed fish - the clearer it is to me that it is a worthwhile challenge. This requires putting my ego in check and accepting that my role as a farmer is not that of an expert, but that of a student. #urbanfarming #locallyraisedfish #brooklyn #theressomuchtolearn #sometimesimscaredivetakenontoomuch
We got 400 hundred of these little guys from a hatchery in NJ. So far we’ve lost about 80 in less than a week and we’re not sure why. Stress from being transported perhaps? #catfish #aquaponics # okofarms #urbanfarming #brooklyn

The aquaponics system may not yet be ready for the season, but we’re growing food. Here’s a first harvest of the season - French Breakfast Radish - grown in soil and irrigated with water from our aquaponics system. #okofarms #aquaponics #urbanfarming #brooklyn
